OBITUARY Dora Estella Sherman, daughter of Augustus and Jane Sherman, was born at Sandy Hill, O., on the old State road, Aug. 15, 1855, died Feb 3, 1909, at East Liberty, O. A few days previous to her mother's death, when just three days old, she was given by her mother to Rev. Aaron and Mrs. Brown. At the age of 8 years, she with her foster parents moved from Pleasant Hill, O., to Sedalia, Mo. At this place she united with the Congregational Church at the age of 16. They returned to Ohio in 1871 residing in different parts of the state until 1879 they came to this community. Mr. Brown's death occuring about 12 years later, after a few years Mrs. Brown went from this place to Mansfield, O., where she died in 1903. She was united in marriage to John Clayton Van Sickle March 13, 1879. To this union four children were born, Ruby Wilcox, Pearl McKay, Hallie and Paul, all of whom with 5 grandchildren survive her. At the time of her marriage she was a member of the Congregational Church at Olive Green, remaining a faithful member until the church disbanded some years later. She united with the Porter Presbyterian Church remaining a faithful member up to the time of her death. She was also a loyal member of the King's Daughters' Society having been one of the organizers. Her deeds of kindness will be remebered by many, and she will be greatly missed, in the church, King's Daughters' Society and especially in the home where she has been so tenderly cared for by loving friends. She has been a patient sufferer for the last 6 years, but during all she was very cheerful. One less at home, the charmed circle broken, a dear face missed day by day from it's usual place, but cleansed, and saved and perfected by grace. Estella I. Van Sickle — the 2001 obituary
Estella I. Van Sickle, age 100 died Sunday morning April 29, 2001 at Bennington Glen in Marengo. She was born on June 8, 1900 in East Liberty, Delaware County to the late Winfield and Ruby (Van Sickle) Wilcox. A lifelong Delaware and Morrow County resident. Throughout her life the homemaker had taught school in Sparta, worked in the Machine Shop at Curtis-Wright during WWII and was a short order cook for Lloyd’s Truck Stop. Estella was a 85 year member of the Marengo United Methodist Church, member of Marengo Senior Citizens, Seniors on Center and played in the Venturer’s Band. Over the years Estella had belonged to the Rebecca Lodge of OES, Marengo Garden Club, and the Pythian Sisters. Preceded in death by her husband of 57 years: Hubert L. VanSickle in 1980, Son: Harold L. VanSickle in 1989, Daughter: Geneva Fisher, Grandson: Jeff, Brothers: Gerald, Carroll, and Darwin Wilcox, Sisters: Irene Thompson, Ruby Dell Flesher, Vera Rader, and a infant sister. Survived by Daughter: Genevieve Rogers of Marengo, 9 Grandchildren, 15 Great-Grandchildren, 4 Great-Great-Grandchildren, Daughter-in-law: Marcella Van Sickle, Brothers: Wayne & Gale Wilcox both of Grand Junction, Colo., Vaughn Wilcox of Marengo.

MARENGO - Mrs. Ida Shaw visited last week with her duaghter Mrs. Lester Priest of Johnstown and also at the home of I. A. Shaw of Delaware.
Mr. and Mrs. Winfield Wilcox entertained at dinner Sunday Mr. and Mrs. G. N. Cross and children, Mr. and Mrs. James Thompson and son of Columbus, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Van Sickle and children and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Wilcox and little daughter. Afternoon callers were Mrs. Mary Wood and Mr. and Mrs. Rolland Coyner of Kilbourne.
Mrs. C. J. Miller of Columbus spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs. William Stoltz.

"[FOR] HEALTH PARADE / [Sc]hool Nutrition Event To Be Held Saturday If Weather Permits. Three thousand school children, say nothing of a large number [of] teachers and the school nutritionist, Miss Esther Tress, are cast[ing] worried looks toward the sky [tod]ay and wondering what the [we]atherman has in store for them [for] Saturday, the day scheduled [for] the postponed health parade. With the king and queen select[ed], the children of the various [sc]hools equipped with their colored [pa]per caps, and the band all [rea]dy to go, the parade, scheduled [for] last Saturdayy was postponed [be]cause of rain. MARENGO - Vaughn C. Wilcox, age 97, of Marengo, died at home late Sunday evening, Dec. 2, 2007, following a one-year illness.
Friends may call Tuesday 4-7p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 229 in Marengo. Graveside services will be held Wednesday 11 a.m. at the Marengo Cemetery with the Rev. James Brantingham officiating.

John Clayton Van Sickle, 1850–1932 — Ruby’s father
OBITUARY
John Clayton Van Sickle, who was born in Porter township, Ohio, August 29, 1850, and died April 13, 1932, aged 81 years, 6 months and 14 days. He was the youngest son of Peter and Alma Van Sickle and of this family there remains but one member, a half-sister, Mrs. Mary Hood, of Kilbourne.
Whn a young man he became a member of the Congregational church of Olive Green, and remained a member until his church was abandoned and from that time on attended the Presbyterian church at East Liberty.
He was a charter member of the K. of P. lodge of Porter township.
March 13, 1879, he was united in marriage to Dora Estelle Sherman, who preceded him in death February 3, 1909. In this union was born four children, Mrs. Ruby Wilcox, Marengo; Mrs. Pearl McCay, Columbus; Mrs. Hally Throcmorten, Sparta; and Paul of Stantontown; He also leaves 21 grand-children, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was a resident of Porter township for 70 years and for several years conducted a general store at East Liberty. Because of failing health for some years he has lived with his children. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Pearl McCay of Columbus.

Hazel VanSickle Succumbs Tuesday
Mrs. Hazel G. Van Sickle, 82, Race St., Ashley, died early Tuesday, January 7, in Grady Memorial Hospital, Delaware, following a brief illness.
A native of Morrow County, Mrs. Van Sickle had lived all her life in the Stantontown community, where she and her husband, Paul, operated a store for many years. He died in 1961.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Bennett-Brown Funeral Home in Ashley with the Rev. George Lee, pastor of the Ashley United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Ashley Union Cemetery.

Margaret L. Wilcox, 91 of Marengo, died Friday afternoon at her residence.
She was born on December 8, 1909 in Quaker Town, Morrow County to the late Carroll and Daisy (Miller) Williams. Graduate of Cardington High School and a member of the Alum Creek Friends Church. She was a Homemaker and lifelong resident of the Marengo area.
Survived by her husband of 68 years: Vaughan C. Wilcox and they were married April 2, 1933 in Cleveland. Special Nieces: Joanne Rausch and Genevieve Rogers of Marengo. Nieces and Nephews.
Preceded in death by Sister: Dorothy Jordan and Brother: Robert Williams.
Friends may call Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 229, Marengo. Graveside service will be held Tuesday in the Marengo Cemetery at 11 :00 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Copley officiating.
